Artist testimony

Scar followed spinal compression fractures. In my account of its making, I cut up a crashed bicycle and cast a body brace, transforming it within the work. Injury, bodily memory, damage, and the decision to continue riding were part of the making—not private backstory added afterward.

Retrospective reading

Looking back, I recognize an early relation here to repair, maintenance, adaptation, and continuation—questions that later took form in machine care and rebuilding work. I would not have used that vocabulary in 2008; it is a present reading of the work rather than its original stated frame.
